Lieutenant Anna-Liza Villard-Howe reported as a nautical science instructor at the United States Coast Guard Academy’s Professional Maritime Studies branch on January 4, 2016. Before that she served as the Assistant Chief of the NOAA Corps Officer Training Center, co-located with USCG Officer Candidate School, beginning January 2015. 

After joining the NOAA corps in August 2006, she spent two and half years on NOAA Ship Rainier (S-221), conducting hydrographic surveys in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. From Rainier, she transferred in 2009 to Silver Spring, Maryland, to work as Flag Lieutenant to the Director of the NOAA corps and the NOAA Office of Marine and Aviation Operations. She commanded NOAA R/V Gloria Michelle out of Woods Hole, Massachusetts, as Officer in Charge starting June 2012, after serving as the Junior Officer in Charge for two years. 

LT Villard-Howe grew up on Chappaquiddick Island, off of Martha's Vineyard. In 2002, she received her A.B. in Economics from Vassar College. She worked as a school bus driver after college, then as a small-deck captain on the Naushon and Chappaquiddick ferries. She holds a 500 Ton Mate/200 Ton Master License as well as a Class B Commercial driver’s license. Anna-Liza currently lives in Waterford, Connecticut with her husband, Tim Michaud, their new baby, Jonathan, and their dog, Hank.
