Instructor
Science Department
U.S. Coast Guard Academy

Dr. Aaron Paget is a physics instructor in the Science Department. He recently completed work at the University of Connecticut at Avery Point where he spent two years as a Post-Doctoral Fellow studying ocean and atmospheric processes. His education includes degrees in Physics, Meteorology, Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, and two years as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Electrical and Computer Engineering working with satellite remote sensing of the Earth.

Dr. Paget studies the air, land, sea, and ice boundary layers and interfaces through satellite remote sensing, in situ observations, and numerical modeling. His research largely focuses on analyzing the biases and unique characteristics of instruments to improve the synthesis of observational data and numerical models. Much of his graduate work focused on the ocean and atmosphere marine boundary layers, the atmosphere-land boundary layer, and the interactions that occur. He is interested in instrument development and in data processing to understand exactly what the instrument observes and to better quantify the total signal that is available including the biases and noise associated with physical changes to the environment. He is also interested in any fluid flow and methods of observing and modeling those flows.

Education:
  • Ph.D., Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, The Florida State University, 2013
  • M.S., Meteorology, The Florida State University, 2009
  • B.S., in Physics, Brigham Young University, 2006
