LT Sam Cheung graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Operations Research and Computer Analysis. His first tour was onboard the USCGC Campbell in Kittery, Maine where he served both as a Deck Watch and Law Enforcement Officer. After Campbell, he served as a Company Officer at the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island training over 90 midshipmen and cadet candidates for acceptance into the U.S. Coast Guard, Naval, or Merchant Marine Academy. From 2005 until 2007, he returned to the USCGA as an Admissions officer as well as taking over the Academy’s Introduction Mission (AIM) program. It was during this tour where LT Cheung also became an assistant basketball coach for the USCGA and helped the team reach the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament for the first time in 28 years. In the team’s following year, it again reached the NCAA tournament and advanced for the first time in school history to the “Elite 8.” LT Cheung spent the past two years earning his Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Rhode Island.
