Tall Ship Eagle
3/c Hillary Smith

My Eagle experience has been everything I expected and more. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel the world representing the United States Coast Guard.

My favorite place we visited so far was Monaco. The people who came on tours loved Eagle and were very friendly. Currently I’m counting down the days until we reach Bermuda.

The day-to-day work on Eagle can get tiring, but at the same time it is rewarding because I know I am learning my trade. Exciting events happen everyday such as yesterday I went out on the bowsprit (the front netting on the bow of the boat) and watched the water rush 20 feet below me. Today the weather is pretty bad, the winds got up to 45 mph and the waves were about 15 feet high. All in all, this has been a positive training experience.
