Prospective Cadet

The Coast Guard Academy offers an academic experience unlike that at a civilian college. Our program is highly selective and ranked among the most elite undergraduate programs in the country. Our campus provides a secure, supportive, and structured environment. Our cadets attend tuition-free, receive a monthly stipend while in school, and are guaranteed an exciting leadership position when they graduate.

The Coast Guard Academy is not just an academic challenge, nor just a leadership challenge, nor just an athletic challenge. It is a total, integrated life experience available nowhere else. That said, the total integration of military and academic environments is not for everyone. It is an enormous challenge intellectually, physically, and mentally. It is highly regimented. Those who persevere are continually pushed to their limits. The experience is relentless, the rewards invaluable.

CGA History

Running Light

running_lightsIn the maritime world, "running lights" are markers used to help identify a vessel's size, location, and direction. They provide the on-looking or approaching mariner explicit direction to help avoid collision. The CGA "Running Light" is a pocket-sized publication which has been used by the Academy to indoctrinate new Cadets since 1931. It is packed with information needed to succeed while at the Academy and avoid "collisions."
